Green Reset Smoothie

Happy New Year Fellow Creatives! This year I was amazed by how quickly my system shifted gears from lazy-cozy holiday mode to embarking on some serious game changing action. In my last post I spoke about the importance of giving your creativity some chill time. I embraced the holidays as a time to do just that and now I'm really feeling the positive aftereffects. New and fresh ideas are coursing through my brain, and the time spent slowing down has filled up my energy reserves. I'm also noticing how much I'm craving to get back to my daily energy-boosting, health-inducing and creativity-inspiring habits and rituals. 

One of my favorite practices in this category is my go-to green reset smoothie. Incorporating this smoothie into my diet has had a huge effect on my energy, productivity and creativity levels. I love having it for breakfast. It clears my mind and makes me feel energized so that I'm able to tap into my most focused and productive work-mode. 

With that said, green smoothies can be a little temperamental. On some mornings I'll make a mouth-wateringly epic smoothie. The kind where every single sip makes me feel like I've just been transported to green smoothie heaven. The next day I'll put the exact same ingredients in the blender and, lo and behold, it just doesn't taste the same. Well, there are a number of philosophical and spiritual conclusions I drew from this little practice. But since you probably clicked on this post hoping to learn how to make an EPIC green smoothie, I'll stay focused on the task at hand.

 After years of experimenting in the smoothie lab, I've found that the most important ingredient is your own intuition. Before you raid your fridge and pull out all of the kale, spinach, bee pollen, maca and spirulina that you can find, take a moment to check in with your belly and your body and listen to what you really want. Does the thought of incorporating hemp seeds make your mouth water or your tummy contract? Our bodies give us clear signals about what we need at any given time. With that said, take this smoothie recipe as an inspiration, guideline and jumping-off point. And then, get creative! Put in whatever sounds yummy and will make you feel nurtured and satisfied. 

 

Ingredients (serves 1)

1 cup baby greens (I like using kale and spinach) 

1/2 banana*

2/3 cup fresh papaya

1 tsp. freshly grated ginger

1/2 lemon (juiced)

1 tsp flax seeds

2 spring water ice cubes

1 cup spring water or almond milk (adjust amount depending on how thick you like your smoothie)

1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Dash Real Salt

Optional: hemp seeds, chia seeds, bee pollen, spirulina, cayenne, a dash of raw vanilla bean powder - anything that your body is craving! 

*It's a good idea to let your banana babies chill in the sun for 3 hours before you enjoy them. Bananas are gassed when they're picked to keep them from ripening too quickly. Suntanning  allows them to release these gases. 

 

Directions

1) Combine all ingredients in a blender. 

2) Blend!

3) Pour into a glass and sip :) 

Sometimes I like to squeeze a little lemon on top. I'm a huge lemon-head and like my smoothies lemony :)
